possess here, now or ever, in this hard-time reality? Or does that even matter? Even if there are potentially better tools, all these structures, even the structure of an organism, mean only the hope of “greater achievements,” not the expectation of them. Individuals will still have to use the tools with purpose. (Gilbert seemed to grow impatient once again. I was barely paying attention myself. Sometimes even the smartest people go off in directions too wild to follow.) "Sure, it's all here for our purpose, but do we really have a choice? I mean we cannot ignore, disregard, or destroy Life; these are not the options It has given us. We can only continue because we are an aside to the fact of existence..."
Gilbert abruptly turned off the recording. He then turned to me and said, "He kind of goes off there in the end, doesn't he? I think he was speaking from within another plane of thought. He almost has to be, to come up with some of the things he said. "He also came back for four more shows to completely fill the week's viewing time. This HDDR holds those episodes, too. He is a most fascinating individual. In any event, he was essentially through with his exposition on mathematics and poetry. What do you think?" "I think I'd like some time to digest it all first, if you don't mind... "Carlos, your mind works very differently than mine. I know numbers and what they mean to calculations, and how those calculations work towards making proofs. But that's not what I need now. It's not what physics needs. What science needs now is a mathematician with the mind of a poet. "When you write a poem, Carlos, your mind is wrapped up in meaning. Even if you mean to be intentionally vague, your poems still hold more meanings than a mathematical proof. All math attempts to do, at its practical best, is to prove what we already know. "I know there is a mathematical representation for inner meaning. It has something to do with character and intention; and how these parts are played within relationships. The theories of chaos strongly suggest this direction is valid. Underlying order in chaos means some thing, some phenomena, are the results of cooperative relationships. And these relationships are dependent upon the characters or intent vectors involved. "Carlos, do you follow me?" "Almost, I need some time to explore the subject more fully." "I can give you that time. If you think you can write the poems I need to turn into equations." "How can I know now if I can do that later?" "I know you. You'll do it or you'll drive yourself nuts trying, whether I pay you or not. You're crazy that way you know. I always admired that about you, that you're crazy like that. You never give up on a problem once you get involved with it. And I can already see that glint in your eye. Help me find the content within the mechanics." "Gilbert you always were a dreamer. I guess that's why we were drawn to each other. But I also know that you're practical and quite capable. I can only guess that you truly see something I don't, yet. And that's enough for me to want to discover what it is. |
