The Distance Between Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon, or any other large canyon? Do you think you could judge the distances you were seeing? Pick up a rock and throw it into the canyon. You may be surprised to find how short a distance it seems to fly. (It's like, "I know I should have thrown it farther than that!") What is distance really? Is it some number of grains of dirt or air molecules between you and whatever further object? No it's much simpler than that... it's an inch, it's a yard, it's a mile. It's an abstract concept that has real consequences. But in my dream world, in my second awareness/mind I felt closer to that far canyon wall than I actually was. With my eyes I reach out. (And see the world around me) With my mind I reach in (using my knowledge to account my surroundings) And with my passion I "see" a world where everything touches everything else. Passion knows no distances. But if you don't take that picture while you're there, getting back to do it later may be more of a problem for your reality than your passion takes into account.
This painting is part of a series commissioned in a "southwestern Style." It's not what I would normally consider "southwestern" but since I know the patron I knew this would work out, and it did. The other two paintings in this series are: Part of the Dream, and Not Meant to Last Forever. |
